Role Overview
As a Senior Database Consultant, you will provide comprehensive support for all database and application infrastructure aspects to a diverse client base. This role is crucial for delivering consulting services, implementing improvements, and optimizing managed Postgre

SQL services.

Responsibilities

Database Management:
Configure, monitor, and maintain Postgre

SQL servers, including installation, upgrades, and performance tuning.

Solution Design & Implementation:
Analyze requirements, design, deploy, and administer IT solutions, especially Postgre

SQL server configuration and ongoing maintenance.

Infrastructure Analysis & Improvement:
Review client infrastructure and processes, recommend best practices, and ensure maximum uptime and recoverability.

Backup & Disaster Recovery:
Administer backup procedures, disaster‑recovery plans, and proactive monitoring to prevent issues.

Data Integrity & Recovery:
Oversee backup, clustering, mirroring, replication, failover, and restoration of corrupted databases.

Action Plan Development:
Create, review, and implement action plans for maintenance, deployment, and upgrades while maintaining thorough documentation.

Data Architecture:
Design, implement, and maintain complex data architectures (normalized and dimensional models, DDL generation), and perform data transformation and migration.

Problem Management:
Lead incident analysis, develop technical procedures for recurring patterns, and maintain documentation for recurring issues.

On‑call:
Participate in the team’s on‑call rotation, typically one weekend per month.

Client Engagement & Communication:
Manage client commitments, prepare status and incident reports, and maintain alignment with client operating procedures.

Qualifications

Experience installing, configuring, and upgrading Postgre

SQL databases and related tools.

Proficiency administering Postgre

SQL in virtualized or cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).

Strong scripting skills (bash, Python) and familiarity with automation tooling such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Chef.

Debugging and troubleshooting skills for complex issues.

Excellent documentation and communication abilities.

Understanding of ITIL service standards and contributions to Postgre

SQL projects are a plus.

Monitoring experience:
Prometheus, Grafana, Solar Winds, pg Admin, Zabbix, Datadog, and cloud‑native monitoring tools.

Experience with high‑availability solutions (Patroni, repmgr) and automated failover/replication.

Knowledge of Postgre

SQL backup tools (Barman, pgBackRest, ) and PITR/WAL archiving.

Experience migrating from Oracle, MySQL, MSSQL, or other engines to Postgre

SQL using tools such as ora2pg or cloud DMS.

Experience with Kubernetes, Prometheus, Grafana, and cloud database resilience strategies is a nice‑to‑have.

Experience with Enterprise

DB solutions (PGD, Big Animal) and disaster‑recovery planning is highly desirable.

Ability to work within a team, manage client expectations, and support on‑call duties.
