We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technical Lead, to join our team at Royal London. As a Technical Lead, you will play a crucial role in managing the design, development, testing and smooth operation of our applications.

You will manage a team, delivering application support, development and test services to our business. You will be responsible for tool selection, vendor management and the technical roadmap for one or more Protection & Equity release applications ensuring continuous improvement in availability, currency, and commerciality. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong technical background and a passion for problem‑solving to contribute to the growth and success of our organisation.

This is a progressive role, joining the Protection & Equity Release applications teams, delivering scalable solutions to both our customers and employees. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of initiatives, working with stakeholders across the group. This role contributes to our values of strengthening our customers mutual choice, by providing sustainable technology solutions to our customers.

About the role:
  • You will line and workload manage a team of developers, testers and support analysts day to day, ensuring aligned priorities, and ensuring change is managed using agreed processes and standards.
  • Responsible for managing the performance of 3rd party vendors against contractual obligations and SLAs and ensuring robust resilience and upgrade paths are in place.
  • You will provide problem management and incident resolution capability (production support) for your applications.
  • Build trusting relationships with key stakeholders and internal customers and 3rd party vendors.
  • Provides expertise to the team on the methods and tools needed to deliver change and optimise testing.
  • Inputs to financial planning and portfolio shaping activities across the Group. Will lead with recruitment of permanent and flexible resource.
  • Promote operational resilience and security to guarantee that both our internal systems and those managed by third parties consistently meet required standards and intended purposes.
About you:
  • Will have extensive background in software development ideally .net & SQL technologies, with exposure to AWS or Azure cloud development an advantage.
  • A sound broad knowledge across IT. With demonstrable experience leading technical teams.
  • Be an expert in application development techniques and methods. In-depth knowledge of application design and development best practices.
  • Ability to apply specialist knowledge to solve complex problems.
  • Ability to work with 3rd party vendor(s).
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • ITIL methodology knowledge preferred.
