What You’ll Be Doing (position summary):
The Senior Manager, Application Development is accountable for managing multiple development projects, development groups, and application support functions for a major line of business within CIBC’s Finance Technology team. This role oversees the development, testing, and implementation of organization-wide systems while directing, motivating, and developing staff to maximize their individual contributions and foster effective team performance. The incumbent works closely with business partners to deliver application programs that drive business improvement and operational excellence.

How You’ll Succeed (responsibilities):
People Management:
Set appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals’ roles support the achievement of the business unit’s priorities and CIBC’s overall goals.
Build team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as job shadowing, special projects, and training.
Manage performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance, and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities.
Create a positive work environment and be an effective role model by championing CIBC’s mission, vision, and values.
Ensure compliance with policies, standards, guidelines, and controls by applying them fairly and consistently so employees understand what to expect.
Hire the right people in the right jobs to align individual capabilities with job requirements and business unit goals.
Relationship Management:
Work closely with clients and business partners to develop, test, and implement application programs that support business objectives.
Advise application owners on technology possibilities and requirements to impact and improve business outcomes.
Service Delivery & Quality Improvement:
Track and analyze the operating environment for specified services and implement corrective actions as needed.
Collaborate with clients and internal partners to determine, negotiate, and manage services to agreed standards.
Monitor service levels to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend appropriate solutions.
Technical Leadership:
Provide technical leadership in areas including Infrastructure (Databases, OS, network), Application Development (various programming languages, containers, performance tuning, middleware workflows), and Cloud technologies (Azure stack, Databricks).
Guide teams in finding technical solutions and adopting best practices in development techniques.
Experience:
5 to 8 years of experience
Who You Are (skills/qualifications):
Must Have
Skills:
10+ yrs of total experience.
3+ years’ experience leading a team of developers in a complex, fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated expertise in Azure Application Development and Solution Design.
Strong technical knowledge in Infrastructure (Databases, OS, network), Application Development (programming languages, containers, middleware), and Cloud technologies (Azure stack, Databricks).
Experience with ETL and Oracle solutions is an asset.
