Engineering Manager - Customer Facing

About the Role

You will lead a team that makes millions of members able daily to use our app, website, or club digital services. As Engineering Manager – Customer Facing Applications you will coach, develop and build a team of about 20 engineers across multiple teams, drive vision, direction and trust for the best customer experience on the app, website, chatbot and club touchpoints.

• Lead and develop a team of about 20 engineers, from recruiting and performance management to career development to ensure people grow and perform.
• Develop a clear vision of the customer-focused digital landscape and translate that into concrete technical and product choices for the app, website, chatbot and club touchpoints.
• Align engineering capacity with product roadmaps for sales, self-service and retention and translate product ambitions into realistic delivery plans.
• Set the standard for code quality, testing, CI/CD, and operational excellence and make it the norm within teams.
• Drive architectural decisions for customer-oriented platforms that are scalable, secure and performant across six European markets.
• Manage external suppliers that contribute to development, management or hosting, covering quality monitoring, contractual agreements and integration with the internal team.
• Own the performance of customer-oriented systems, including monitoring, incident response and continuous improvement.
• Identify opportunities where technology can further enhance the online and in-club member experience.
• Collaborate closely with Product Owners for sales, self-service and retention.

• Proven experience as Engineering Manager or similar senior engineering lead role, leading teams of 15 or more engineers.
• Strong track record of building and retaining high-performing engineering teams.
• Solid knowledge of modern web and mobile application architecture, APIs and integration patterns.
• Experience with customer-facing digital products – apps, e-commerce, self-service portals or comparable consumer-scale platforms.
• Experience directing external suppliers in a multi-vendor environment.
• Fluent in English and Dutch; knowledge of French, Spanish or German is a strong advantage.
• Experience in subscription-based, retail or location-based environments is a plus.
