Position and Location

Position: HR Consultant

Location: Waterloo Region / Toronto / GTA / Remote (Hybrid—we travel when in-person really matters)

Compensation: $70,000 - $100,000 + annual performance-based bonus

Use of AI: We do not use AI in the screening and interviewing process. A member of our team reads your resume and meets with you.

The Reality of This Role

Most HR roles are about following the manual. At Primary People Group (PPG), we're the ones who write it; from scratch, together with our clients, and always specifically for the person sitting across from us.

We don't just pitch a "solution", we solve the specific, messy problems that keep CEO's up at night, and we create the road map on how to get them where they want to go. Because we're 100% referral-based, we don't walk into a room as "the consultants", we walk in as the people they've been waiting for.

We're still figuring some things out as we grow, but we're building something we're proud of.

What Your Week Actually Looks Like
  • Morning: You're on a Zoom with a founder, translating their vision into a strategy that makes sense to everyone.
  • Lunch: You're taking a break to walk the dog or hit the gym because you managed your morning and your clients’ are happy.
  • Afternoon: You're diving deep into an AI tool to automate a client's onboarding, then pivoting to draft a high-stakes termination agreement that protects the company while staying human.

You aren't "managing a load." You are running your own mini-practice. You decide how the work gets done, as long as you keep client work central and quality doesn't slip.

You'll Thrive Here If...
  • You have a "Refining Eye": You don't just send a policy; you format it, stress-test it, and make sure it sounds like the client's voice, not a legal textbook. You catch details that matter when a CEO is about to present this to their team.
  • You're a Chameleon: You can talk shop with a manufacturing floor manager at 9 AM and present a DEI roadmap to a Board of Directors at 2 PM. You read the room, adjust your approach, and meet people where they are. You translate "culture feels off" into concrete, high impact next steps.
  • You Hate Micromanagement: You own your work; the project, the relationship, and the delivery.
  • You Value Outcomes over Busy: If a client is in a crisis at 6 PM, you're there. If your deliverables are done by 3 PM on a Friday, you're done for the week.
