Location:
Home Based / Oxford (onsite 2 - 3 days a MONTH) Salary: £45,000 - £47,000 ( on call, excellent benefits)

Azure, Microsoft Entra , Conditional Access, Azure Automation Runbooks, Power Shell, Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, We are looking to recruit an Azure Cloud Engineer for a technology driven public sector organisation. This is a senior technical role focused on strengthening and modernising a Microsoft cloud environment. The organisation is looking for someone with strong hands-on Azure experience who can act as a technical escalation point, support cloud-first delivery, improve operational automation and help close key skills gaps across Microsoft Entra , Conditional Access and Azure automation.
This is not a traditional on-prem infrastructure role with a small amount of cloud. The successful candidate will bring genuine Azure cloud engineering experience, ideally alongside a good understanding of hybrid Microsoft environments. This is a hybrid role and you will be required to work onsite at my client's office in Oxford 2 / 3 days in a month.
Key responsibilities:
Act as a senior technical specialist across Azure and Microsoft cloud services Design, implement and support secure, scalable Azure cloud solutions Configure and improve Microsoft Entra , hybrid identity and Conditional Access policies Develop and maintain Azure Automation Runbooks to improve operational efficiency Support the modernisation of legacy infrastructure into cloud-first services Provide technical assurance, documentation and best practice guidance Support Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online and related collaboration platforms Work across Azure services such as virtual machines, networking, DNS, storage, web apps, app gateways and load balancing Support PKI, certificate services and wider infrastructure security requirements Contribute to disaster recovery, business continuity and service availability improvements Work with internal teams, suppliers and stakeholders to deliver secure and resilient technology services Mentor and support other engineers, acting as an escalation point for complex technical issues Essential experience:
Strong hands-on Azure cloud engineering experience Good knowledge of Microsoft Entra / Azure AD and hybrid identity Experience creating or managing Conditional Access policies
Experience with Azure Automation Runbooks and Power Shell scripting Microsoft 365 / Exchange Online experience Understanding of Azure networking, identity, security and governance principles Ability to produce clear technical documentation and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders Experience working in an operational environment with service improvement, incident/problem management and ITIL-style processes Desirable experience: PKI / certificate services Azure Virtual Desktop Exchange on-prem to Exchange Online / hybrid Exchange Azure cost management Public sector, policing or secure environment experience Active Directory, Windows Server and broader Microsoft infrastructure experience
