Main purpose of the role

The purpose of the role is to provide strong delivery leadership across complex, technology‑enabled initiatives with significant operational impact. Initially, this will involve the successful delivery of the TMS pilot and roll‑out, ensuring operational adoption, delivery confidence, and a controlled transition into hyper‑care or BAU.

As the programme landscape evolves, the role will flex to deliver other priority initiatives, providing consistent governance, technical delivery oversight, and operational assurance across the portfolio.

TMS Delivery – Initial Phase
  • Take end-to-end responsibility for delivery of the TMS implementation, including pilot and scale‑up decision.
  • Mobilise and maintain integrated delivery plans, milestones, dependencies, and budget controls.
  • Lead the weekly delivery rhythm and provide clear status, risks, and decisions into Steer Co governance.
  • Manage 3rd party TMS vendors and system integrators to ensure contractual and delivery outcomes.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional teams across Transport, Warehouse, IT, Finance, HR and Commercial.
  • Oversee integration with core enterprise platforms such as IFS, WMS, finance and data platforms.
  • Manage system testing phases (SIT, UAT) and readiness activities.
  • Develop and own the go‑live, cutover, and Go / No-Go decision frameworks.
  • Ensure operational readiness, training, adoption, and early‑life support (hyper‑care).
  • Proactively manage technology, data, operational, and adoption risks.
Other Large-Scale Initiatives
  • Lead the delivery of additional complex initiatives post‑TMS, which may include DTC, API‑led integrations, automation, or AI‑enabled solutions.
  • Apply consistent delivery governance, planning, and controls across multiple initiatives.
  • Work closely with IT and architecture teams to manage technical dependencies and integration risks.
  • Translate technical solutions into operational outcomes, ensuring change is embedded within business teams.
  • Manage multiple 3rd party partners and delivery streams where required.
  • Maintain delivery confidence through clear reporting, decision‑making, and stakeholder engagement.
Personal attributes
  • Proven experience delivering large‑scale, technology‑enabled projects with significant operational impact.
  • Strong delivery in SaaS‑based implementations, including complex integrations.
  • Track record of operating in environments with high levels of technical and operational complexity.
  • Experience of working with 3rd party software vendors and system integrators.
  • Confident operating within structured governance, stage gates, and executive reporting.
  • Experience of Waterfall and Agile delivery, or hybrid delivery models.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Recognised project management qualification (PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, or APM PMQ), or equivalent experience.
  • Direct experience delivering TMS, DTC, or logistics and supply chains systems.
  • Exposure to AI‑enabled solutions, data platforms, or automation initiatives.
  • Experience integrating systems such as IFS, WMS, finance, CRM, or data platforms.
  • Background in operational environments such as transport, distribution, warehousing, or fulfilment.
  • Experience delivering pilot projects and supporting scale‑up decisions.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement or LEAN principles.
