Advanced Backend Engineer – Cloud AI Platform; Remote​/Hybrid

Introduction Our client is seeking an Advanced Back-End Developer to join their high-impact IT Hub.

This position is aligned with an innovative product vision to redefine enterprise content management for the digital age by building a dynamic, cloud-based platform driven by AI and automation. You will play a crucial role in streamlining workflows, enhancing content discoverability, and securing data assets on a global scale.

As an Advanced Developer, you will combine technical theory with practical implementation to manage underlying infrastructure master solutions.

Working mostly autonomously with access to senior mentorship, you will check solutions built by others and guide entry-level team members through complex technical tasks.

• Template Engineering: Actively develop, maintain, and support complex document templates using Open Text ExStream Software to fulfill all enterprise output management requirements.

• Migration Strategy: Lead critical migration initiatives, transforming legacy Page Out templates into modern, dynamic Story Teller templates.

• Scripting Mastery: Leverage extensive professional experience in Perl and Unix scripting to optimize server-side functionality across Linux servers.

• Data Parsing: Utilize deep knowledge of XML and XPath to manage data mapping, input queues, and backend application interfaces.

• Contract Dates: 01-06-2026 to 31-12-2028.

• Location: Midrand / Menlyn / Rosslyn / Home Office Rotation.

• Role Group: Dev Ops, Role Name:
  Software Engineering.

• Experience: 4-6 Years related experience

• Work Arrangement: 1960 hours per 12-month period with high work-life balance and remote/on-site flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Template Design: Execute high-quality template development and maintain existing enterprise output architectures.

• Estimation & Scoping: Provide precise technical effort estimations and scoping for incoming back-end project streams.

• Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner tightly with the broader build team to align infrastructure solutions, databases, and network storage (SAN/NAS).

• Security & Compliance: Incorporate and adhere to all relevant corporate IT security guidelines.

• Agile Execution: Perform all delivery tracks in a 100% agile manner, keeping a high awareness of defined agile roles and guidelines.

Qualifications & Experience

• Matric alongside a relevant IT Degree, Diploma, or a recognized qualification related to application development.

• Proven experience across the full IT application Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process.

• Essential: Expertise in interpreting user requirement specifications and translating them into robust back-end configurations.

• Soft Skills: Ability to adapt and reach agreements through compromise within a collaborative team when functional requests are initially unclear.

Essential Skills & Technologies

• Software Tools: Hands-on experience with Open Text ExStream Communications Server, Control Centre, Design Centre, Page Out, and Story Teller.

• Core Scripting: Heavy background in Perl scripting, Unix scripting, and Linux system architectures.

• Data Frameworks: Strong analytical background working closely with XML and XPath data structures.
