About this position
An opportunity to work as a Computer Vision Scientist within TNO’s Intelligent Imaging research group. You will contribute to a wide range of research projects, often in teams, and develop new knowledge and technologies that are directly applied for clients across business, industry and government sectors. The group is a passionate, creative, and committed team of more than 55 professionals from diverse backgrounds, from physics to artificial intelligence.
Whatwill be your role?
As a Computer Vision Scientist you will conduct collaborative research, develop and apply computer‑vision solutions, optimise algorithms for real‑time processing, and work with embedded and camera systems. You will also coach and mentor colleagues and help shape the direction of projects that may involve defence and security applications.
What we expect from you- Completed MSc or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Technical Medicine, Medical Imaging, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or Artificial Intelligence.
- At least ten years of research experience in computer vision.
- Strong experience in real‑time algorithm optimisation, knowledge of architectures and data pipelines, and exposure to embedded systems (edge computing) or camera systems.
- Demonstrable experience in algorithm development and deep learning.
- Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, and/or C++; ability to learn new programming languages quickly.
- Fluent in Dutch and English.
- A pragmatic mindset and motivation to continue developing as a researcher.
- Domain knowledge of defence and robotics, and a network of stakeholders such as police, defence organisations, DJI, or the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMAR) is considered a strong plus.
- Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and clients and to coach & mentor peers.

- Gross monthly salary between €5,900 and €7,600 (plus 8% holiday pay, a 13th‑month bonus of 8%⅓, and a flex budget of 5.58%+ €180).
