Type of Employment: Indeterminate if successful appointee chooses Iqaluit, otherwise it will be a 3-year Term.

Salary Range: $113,146 to $128,412 per year; 37.5 hours/week (If successful appointee is a non‑GN employee and chooses Remote Work, it will be offered at $113,146)

Northern Allowance: $16,328 per year for successful hire in Iqaluit

Housing: Subsidised Staff Housing not available

Union Status: Nunavut Employees Union

In accordance with the Government of Nunavut’s Remote Hiring Policy, this position is being advertised in the home community or is eligible for remote work.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the stable and efficient operation of GN software, applications, and database assets within the Solutions Delivery network environment.
  • Install, configure, optimise, test, and administer departmental software, applications, and databases within the Solutions Delivery environment.
  • Install, configure, optimise, test, and administer Microsoft SQL, Oracle, MySQL, and other proprietary database systems.
  • Collaborate with third‑party vendors providing COTS solutions to support and upgrade existing software and applications, including the installation, testing, and documentation of service packs, patches, and hotfixes.
  • Liaise with third‑party vendors on the implementation of new software versions and application releases.
  • Review and contribute to the development of standards and guidelines for GN software, applications, and databases; assess and recommend database consolidation opportunities to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.
  • Support the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of new and existing software, applications, and database solutions.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of application, software, and database security standards, ensuring the integrity and security of GN network environments.
  • Analyze budget implications and technical requirements related to the implementation of new databases, applications, and software technologies, as well as the upgrade and enhancement of existing systems.
Qualifications
  • Two‑year post‑secondary college diploma in computer science, information technology, or related engineering programme.
  • Four years of recent experience in a large (>2000‑user) complex enterprise‑wide network with diverse solutions from multiple vendors.
  • Three years of progressive experience in physical and virtual desktop hardware, operating systems, software and applications support in a medium to large enterprise or government network environment.
  • Current vendor certifications where the GN has standardised manufacturers such as Microsoft SQL, Oracle, MySQL.
  • Experience in project and contract administration within an enterprise‑level IM/IT environment.
  • Cost‑management, risk, contingency and disaster‑recovery management abilities.
  • Exposure to satellite network communications.
  • Awareness of the Nunavut Informatics environment, including knowledge of the Informatics Planning and Service Division mission, organisational structure, mandates and technical infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of GN mandates and program activities.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations applicable to information management and information technology (Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Consulting and Audit Canada standards, etc.) to ensure systems integrity, reliability and security.

This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

Language & Cultural Skills (Assets)
  • Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience with Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and working in a northern cross‑cultural environment are also considered assets.
