Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Information Services Consultant to support the development, modernization, and implementation of records classification frameworks and retention schedules. The role focuses on ensuring that record keeping practices are practical, compliant, and aligned with regulatory and operational requirements, particularly in complex or highly governed environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and apply records classification structures and retention schedules
  • Analyze business processes to identify records, record keeping requirements, and retention triggers
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including business units, legal, privacy, audit, and IT
  • Translate legislative, regulatory, and policy requirements into practical business rules
  • Assess and mitigate record keeping risks (legal, privacy, operational, audit, reputational)
  • Create clear documentation such as retention rationales, classification models, and procedures
  • Map end-to-end processes to identify record creation, storage, duplication, and handling
  • Support modernization efforts in classification and digital record keeping systems
Qualifications Required Experience
  • Experience in records management, information governance, compliance, or related disciplines
  • Experience working in regulated environments such as financial services, public sector, or Crown corporations
  • Proven ability to analyze processes and identify record keeping needs
  • Experience engaging with diverse stakeholders across business and technology functions
Required Skills
  • Strong knowledge of classification and taxonomy design
  • Retention and disposition strategies
  • Metadata in record keeping practices
  • Strong analytical skills to identify risks, gaps, and overlaps
  • Ability to distinguish official records from transitory information
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to balance compliance with operational practicality
Nice to Have
  • Experience with classification modernization or digital transformation initiatives
  • Familiarity with Canadian regulatory frameworks and information laws
  • Experience with enterprise content management or cloud platforms (e.g., O365)
  • Knowledge of automation, workflows, and metadata-driven controls
  • Experience working with legacy systems and fragmented information environments
