We have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Junior Data Scientist to join our IT team based in Crewe.

This role will give you the opportunity to support the development of data science capability by developing the skills, knowledge and practical experience required to become a Junior Data Scientist.

You will combine structured learning with hands‑on experience working with real business data to support analytics, and decision‑making across commercial, supply chain, and operational teams throughout the business.

By the end of the apprenticeship, you will be able to contribute to the design, development and deployment of data science solutions that improve business insight, efficiency, and performance.

Working Hours:

This is a hybrid role with working hours from Monday to Thursday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, and an early finish at 4:00 PM on Fridays. We also offer flexibility with hours and working from home availability to help you maintain a healthy work‑life balance!

Your Duties Will Include:
  • Support data scientists and analytics teams in collecting, cleaning and preparing datasets for analysis and modelling.
  • Assist in exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, trends and opportunities within commercial, supply chain, and operational data.
  • Contribute to the development of statistical and machine learning models under supervision.
  • Work with large datasets using Python, SQL and modern analytics platforms.
  • Support the maintenance and improvement of analytical workflows.
  • Participate in testing, validation and documentation of data science models and analytical outputs.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to understand business problems and translate them into analytical tasks.
  • Follow best practices in data governance, data quality and responsible AI usage.
  • Continuously develop technical and analytical skills through the apprenticeship programme and internal mentorship.
Skills,

Experience and Qualifications:
  • Two A‑Levels in one or more similar subjects plus B in A‑Level maths.
  • Two A‑Levels in one or more similar subjects plus 2‑years work experience in tech.
  • Level 4 or 5 apprenticeship in a similar technical subject.
  • 3 + years in a similar subject – related role.
  • A first degree in a numerate discipline (but excluding Computer Science as not fundable).
  • Strong interest in data, analytics, and problem solving.
  • Basic understanding of mathematics, statistics or data analysis concepts.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to work with structured data.
  • Good communication skills and ability to explain findings clearly.
  • Willingness to learn programming languages such as Python or SQL.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Ability to apply mathematical reasoning to solve analytical problems.
  • Exposure to programming or scripting (e.g. Python, R, SQL).
  • Basic understanding of data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau or similar).
  • Awareness of machine learning or statistical modelling concepts.
  • Interest in food manufacturing, supply chain analytics or commercial analytics.
