Head of Data Science – Brand New role within the company – Lots of Autonomy and decision making within the organisation!

My client, a leading fintech company has created a brand new and extremely important role within their organisation.

Over the last few years they have totally transformed and evolved its technical environment and the next phase of its evolution aims to develop new services using its vast amount of data that will help customers save money and access the best available products on the market.

My client has been and will continue to be at the forefront of the open banking data evolution.

The role – Head of Data Science;
The head of data science will lead my client’s data products initiative, building and managing a multi-disciplinary team to bring new products and services to their customer base. You will also oversee and evolve my client’s business intelligence capabilities.

You will define and lead the data product strategy and delivery with three prime objectives:

• Help customers save money and improve their creditworthiness
• Develop data-driven capabilities to automate our intelligence
• Grow an active returning membership base from these services

This is a new completely new capability within the business so you will have the opportunity to build and shape this from scratch.

Experience needed to succeed in the Head of Data Science role;

• Experience with in a similar role where you have been a strong team leader, able to convey a clear vision, and roadmap.
• You will have a deep technical background in modern advanced analytics, statistics, machine learning, and AI techniques, with experience using the latest cloud-based technologies.
• Previous experience in leading a function in defining and developing data-driven products
• If you have worked with credit and open banking data this could be advantageous.

My client’s platform is composed of leading modern software technologies deployed within the cloud, this was custom built from scratch and allows the company to move fast with high quality and low risk.

They are constantly striving for new and innovative ways to achieve outcomes, and you’ll have the opportunity to make use of technologies that can accelerate or differentiate their capabilities.

The company works in cross-functional teams working together on shared objectives.

As the Head of Data Science, you will take responsibility for their existing data & analytics function, which is composed of BI (Business Intelligence) developers and data engineers. The rest of the team is still to be built and you’ll be the key to shaping this.

My client’s main office is situated in South Manchester but they have a flexible work from home policy and can consider fully remote positions for the right candidate, although an occasional visit to the office would be preferred.

You will report directly to the CTO, and you’ll form part of the platform’s senior leadership team, alongside leaders in engineering and change.
