Tom Tom develops real-time mapping technology and location-based services for automotive manufacturers, enterprises, and developers. The company focuses on creating high-precision maps and navigation solutions that power dashboards, mobile devices, and various digital platforms globally.
- Design and refine 2D and 3D map visualisations from concept through production delivery
- Own the end-to-end cartographic design process including data exploration, sketching, style implementation, QA, and iteration
- Enhance core map styles to ensure consistency, readability, and visual quality across global markets and screen densities
- Collaborate with software engineers on map data structures, renderers, and SDKs
- Contribute to solution design discussions and provide clear design specifications
- Define requirements for internal cartographic authoring tools and identify workflow improvements
- Participate in user research, customer conversations, and competitive benchmarking to inform design decisions
- Document patterns, conventions, and cartographic guidelines within the design system
- 5+ Years of professional experience in UX design, cartographic design, GIS, or geospatial visualisation
- Strong background in digital cartography, GIS, or geographic information design
- Hands-on experience designing multi-zoom digital maps with attention to label placement, generalisation, and cultural adaptation
- Proficiency with mapping technologies such as Map Libre, Mapbox GL JS, Open Street Map tools, QGIS, ArcGIS, Leaflet, or Open Layers
- Experience working with diverse spatial datasets including vector/raster tiles, GeoJSON, shape files, point clouds, or terrain data
- Ability to build visually compelling 2D and 3D map experiences with an understanding of real-time rendering concepts
- Familiarity with software development workflows including Git, pull requests, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Cartography, Geography, GIS, UX Design, Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience
- Nice to have:
Experience with game engines (Unity, Unreal Engine, Blender), front-end development languages (JavaScript/Type Script, WebGL, GLSL), scripting for cartographic automation (Python, PostGIS, Overpass API), map data processing tools (Tippecanoe, Tilemaker, osm2pgsql, Mapnik), knowledge of automotive/logistics industries, spatial computing trends, or design systems at scale
