Under the general direction of the Section Lead or Senior SAP Basis Administrator, the SAP Basis Administrator assists in the design, administration, monitoring, and support of Manitoba Hydro’s SAP technical infrastructure across ECC, S/4
HANA, and SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) components. The role includes system performance, availability, security, and lifecycle management activities to ensure reliable SAP environments.
- Assist in the design, administration, and support of SAP technical infrastructure, ensuring secure operation, high availability, and optimal performance.
- Monitor and tune SAP systems, including application servers, HANA databases, and integration components.
- Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for SAP instances, software components, Linux scripts, utilities, databases, SAP desktop tools, printing services, and underlying infrastructure.
- Support SAP HANA database lifecycle management, including upgrade, patching, backup, and recovery.
- Collaborate with SAP Applications staff to support application development, deployment, and testing.
- Maintain backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures, including participation in scheduled testing.
- Offer advisory input on system access, security considerations, and infrastructure capabilities to business analysts, developers, and management.
- Participate in SAP-related projects such as system refreshes, migrations, upgrades, and S/4
HANA transition activities. - Stay current on SAP security enhancements, Basis tools, and infrastructure developments relevant to the organization’s SAP environment.
- Support integration between on‑premise SAP systems and cloud-based solutions such as RISE with SAP, Success Factors, and Ariba.
- Maintain connectivity, certificates, and middleware components (e.g., SAP Cloud Connector, SAP BTP services, or SAP Integration Suite).
- Provide on‑call support outside regular working hours as part of a rotational schedule.
- Work overtime when required and be prepared to respond to 24‑hour maintenance needs.
- Handle standby and overtime duties during major system upgrades and enhancements.
- Four‑year degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering with at least two years of SAP Basis or SAP security experience, OR two‑year diploma in Computer Technology with four years of SAP Basis or SAP security experience, OR equivalent education and experience combination.
- Knowledge of SAP technical infrastructure components and their administration across ECC, S/4
HANA, and related platforms. - Working knowledge of Linux and Windows server operating systems, including commands, scripting, networking fundamentals, and authorization concepts.
- Experience supporting SAP application servers, web dispatchers, gateway services, and related infrastructure.
- Experience with SAP system upgrades, enhancement packs, support packages, kernel updates, and transport management.
- Understanding of SAP HANA database administration, backup, recovery, patching, and performance monitoring.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Ability to learn quickly, adapt to new technologies, and apply new skills in a dynamic SAP environment.
- Self‑motivated, dependable, and able to complete detailed technical work with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to make and implement effective decisions in time‑sensitive situations.
- Diplomatic interpersonal skills when working with colleagues, business partners, and vendors.
- Prepared to work overtime and 24‑hour on‑call rotations to maintain system reliability.
- Familiarity with cloud‑based SAP solutions (RISE with SAP, Success Factors, Ariba) in integration, connectivity, identity management, or operational support.
- Completed Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) training before start date and renewal each year.
- Maintain current Personnel Risk Assessment and a “Clear” security rating per Manitoba Hydro Policy P513.

This is a progressive classification (Support Specialist I–II). Classification and salary are commensurate with qualifications.
Support Specialist I – $30.32–$40.63 hourly ($58,095.96–$77,854.66 annually)
Support Specialist II – $37.85–$52.37 hourly ($72,521.80–$ annually)
