Salary: £35,000 per year

• Ability to manage and organise datasets from multiple sources to enable analysis, presentation and identification of synergies
• Enquiring mind and forensic approach to manipulating and mining data to create insights and frame important questions
• Ability to establish methods for querying datasets for detailed analysis
• Proficiency in using different data tools
• Ability to research and learn new data tools for the benefit of the organisation
• Ability to interpret data through an understanding of the real world
• Strong communication skills with a creative approach and the ability to deliver insights in clear and accessible written, verbal and visual media
• Self-motivated
• Sympathetic to the mission of the Church of England
• Willingness to consider a range of options and possibilities when working with others
• Experience developing financial models for large, complex organisations would be an advantage
• Stakeholder engagement skills would be an advantage
• Understanding of the structure, organisation and culture of the Church of England, ideally including how a diocese works, and how churches and parishes work, would be an advantage
• Awareness of external public data sources, such as census and public health data, would be an advantage
• Understanding of GIS software and data would be an advantage
• Experience working with CRMs would be an advantage
• Understanding and experience using presentation software would be an advantage

• Take the lead in proactively developing fresh insights through analysis of quantitative and qualitative data from both internal and external sources
• Lead the development of a data modelling framework that links datasets to provide stronger insights for strategic decisions on resources and priorities
• Lead the promotion and support of Statistics for Mission collection, analysis, reporting on trends, and provision of insights
• Work with colleagues to shape questions that support fruitful discussion and decision-making across the organisation, especially with the Mission Area Support Team and the Bishops Senior Staff Team
• Collect and present data using dashboards, maps, graphs and PowerPoint in accessible formats for a range of audiences
• Act as a driving force for improvements in data collection and reporting by working with colleagues to request, collect and process data
• Lead the development and management of storage and maintenance of key datasets, including Statistics for Mission and Parish Finance Returns
• Review and align datasets so they interact well, are easy to maintain and access, and provide a point of reference for Church House
• Make greater use of data in our CRM to inform reporting and decision-making
• Develop, document and embed processes for maintaining datasets, ensuring one version of the truth and a shared language for describing data
• Create maps and use GIS tools to present complex information more simply for stakeholder engagement and funding conversations
• Support colleagues across Church House in their use of data by providing timely and accessible information and guidance on how to use it effectively
• Help build an ongoing information analysis capability across Church House
• Assist the Strategic Programme Director and Project Leads in establishing measurement mechanisms for projects
• Share best practice with other dioceses regarding the development of tools and use of data in the change process
• Support other dioceses with recruitment and induction of equivalent roles
• Participate in annual review and appropriate continuing professional development

We are based at Church House, Rotherham, with home working available and a minimum of two days per week in the office. This is a full-time role of 35 hours per week, with part-time and flexible options available. We offer 28 days of annual leave plus bank holidays. This post is funded by a grant from the National Church currently up to the end of 2028, with the possibility of extension subject to future funding, and we are looking for someone to help us strengthen our use of data, insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making, mission, and spiritual and numerical growth across the Diocese.

We use Microsoft 365, PowerBI, ArcGIS and Zoho, and work closely with a wide range of teams and senior leaders across Church House.
