Network Engineer
You’ll support Capital One UK’s Network Infrastructure ensuring our technologies meet Capital One’s continuously updated requirements. The role involves technical analysis, project design and delivery, support of BAU services, and contributing to the wider organization. The Engineer must possess strong Cisco Data Centre or Service Provider knowledge, experience with AWS networking, Palo Alto, and Versa SD‑WAN based services, and will participate in a 24/7 on‑call rota.
Responsibilities- Drive operational excellence by providing high‑tier support for the entire network and firewall infrastructure, including participation in the 24/7 on‑call rotation.
- Champion core technologies, acting as the SME for at least one core platform, guiding its lifecycle refreshes and continuous service improvements.
- Deliver change by executing infrastructure updates driven by technology refreshes, BAU requirements, and strict security compliance standards.
- Diagnose and resolve complex network incidents rapidly while producing high‑quality supporting documentation.
- Manage critical partnerships by building and maintaining strong operational relationships with third‑party suppliers, carriers, and manufacturers.
- Embrace Agile by utilizing Kanban methodologies to streamline project delivery and BAU functions.
- Deep routing and switching expertise, with hands‑on experience in Cisco Enterprise Data Center and WAN components, including ACI, NX‑OS, and BGP.
- Security and SD‑WAN proficiency, specifically with Versa SD‑WAN and Palo Alto firewalls.
- Cloud networking knowledge, including AWS Direct Connect, Transit Gateways, VPCs, and Security Groups.
- Experience embedding network automation into production environments and promoting an automation‑first approach.
- Proficiency in enterprise monitoring and diagnostics tools, such as Logic Monitor, Net Brain, and Wireshark.
- Vendor and framework experience, effectively collaborating with virtual teams and third‑party supplier models using Agile/Kanban frameworks.
This is a permanent position based in our Nottingham office. We offer a hybrid working model, requiring presence in the office three days a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays) and remote work on other days.
