Data Engineering, Systems Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled professional to join our Manufacturing Technologies team. In this role, you will drive the integration of manufacturing systems, data platforms, and digital solutions across regulated pharmaceutical production environments.
You will serve as a technical expert responsible for connecting manufacturing equipment and instruments, MES, historians, ERP, LES, and other enterprise systems to enable seamless data flow, operational excellence, compliance, and advanced analytics. This position plays an important role in supporting Industry 4.0 / Smart Manufacturing initiatives, data integrity, digital transformation, and continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, implement, and support integrations between manufacturing and enterprise systems, including MES, ERP, SCADA, PLC, Historian, LES, and data platforms, and equipment.
- Ensure reliable and compliant collection, transformation, storage, and transfer of manufacturing data.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, validation, automation, Digital and Tech to define integration requirements and deliver scalable solutions.
- Support implementation of digital manufacturing, Industry 4.0 / Smart Manufacturing, and advanced analytics initiatives.
- Support development and maintenance interfaces, APIs, middleware solutions, ETL processes, and system connectivity standards.
- Ensure compliance with GxP, FDA, EMA, MHRA, ALCOA+ principles, and data integrity requirements.
- Establish and maintain documentation including functional specifications, design documents, SOPs, and validation deliverables.
- Drive standardization of data models, naming conventions, and integration frameworks across manufacturing sites.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Automation, Biotechnology, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing systems, automation, data integration, or digital manufacturing within a regulated pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences environment.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and GxP requirements.
- Experience with manufacturing systems such as: MES (e.g., PAS‑X, Syncade, Opcenter), Historians (e.g., PI System), SCADA/HMI platforms, LIMS, ERP systems (e.g., SAP), Automation platforms and industrial control systems.
- Experience designing and supporting system integrations using APIs, OPC‑UA, MQTT, SQL, middleware platforms, and ETL tools.
- Strong knowledge of database technologies and data modelling.
- Experience with CSV validation and computerized system validation (CSV/CSA).
- Proficiency in SQL and data analysis tools.
- Good English communication skills. Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with cloud‑based manufacturing data platforms (Azure, AWS, or equivalent).
- Knowledge of data lakes, data warehouses, and analytics platforms.
- Familiarity with ISA‑95, ISA‑88, and Industry 4.0 frameworks.
- Experience supporting global manufacturing sites and multi‑site standardization programs.
