Principal Engineer

Salary: £65,000 - 65,000 per year

• We need experience leading technical delivery across the full lifecycle, from design through to live service.
• Strong analytical skills are required, including solution evaluation and gap analysis.
• Experience working with suppliers and third‑party partners in delivery environments is required.
• You should have awareness of emerging technologies and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills are required, including the ability to influence at all levels.
• Hands‑on experience with Java and Spring Boot is required.
• Strong knowledge of modern technologies and platforms used within digital and cloud applications is required.
• Desirable skills include RESTful design and working with API Gateway products.
• Desirable skills include Azure containers and container orchestration, including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Desirable skills include continuous integration pipelines and version control platforms.
• Desirable skills include IaC scripting and concepts, with Bicep or Terraform preferred but not essential.

• We will own technical direction across projects, including solution design, build, testing and release planning.
• We will assess solution options and perform gap analysis to ensure alignment between current and future state systems.
• We will collaborate with stakeholders and third‑party partners, acting as a key technical contact and subject matter expert.
• We will maintain awareness of technology trends to ensure our platforms remain supported, resilient and aligned to future needs.
• We will support live service stability by coordinating defect resolution and acting as an escalation point for risks and issues.
• We will act as a technical lead across complex initiatives, shaping solutions and guiding delivery from design through to live service.
• We will work closely with engineering teams, stakeholders and third‑party partners to ensure solutions are robust, scalable and aligned to business outcomes.
• We will provide technical leadership to develop colleagues and help translate requirements into technical designs.
