The post holder will have specialist knowledge of SQL Server and be responsible for the security and support of the databases underpinning the Trusts Information and Clinical systems and reporting tools used in the capture/provision of high quality clinical and management information to end users throughout the Trust. The role includes providing systems support and enhancements for core hospital systems.

This is a group-wide role across multiple sites. The Information Services teams are based at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham Hull and New Beacon House, Scunthorpe. Teams run a hybrid of office and remote working arrangements.

• Ensure that SQL Server instances remain secure, reliable and available.
• Monitor SQL Server to detect compromises and apply required security patches in a controlled manner, liaising with key individuals as appropriate if downtime is required.
• Advise and guide on the design, configuration, optimisation and secure use of SQL Server databases and associated data services.
• Install, patch and configure SQL Server.
• Tune performance and optimise queries.
• Configure and maintain backups, including regular testing of backup and restore procedures.
• Configure and monitor high‑availability and disaster recovery features.
• Configure and monitor security to ensure compliance with relevant standards and audit recommendations.
• Assist the Business Intelligence team with ETL operations, report creation and database design.
• Create and maintain documentation of the SQL Server estate and related processes.

• Educated to degree standard or demonstrable equivalent experience.
• Qualification in Computer Programming.
• Evidence of ongoing personal development.
• Microsoft Certified DBA (MCDBA).

• Minimum of five years in a Database Administrator or comparable role.
• Demonstrable experience of Database Administration.
• DBA experience with other database platforms such as Oracle and Cache.
• Understanding of hospital systems such as Patient Administration Systems is an advantage.
• Proven experience of line management of staff.

• Effective organisational and time‑management skills.
• Project management.
• Expert knowledge of SQL Server 2008 R2 onwards.
• Expert knowledge of SQL Server high‑availability technologies such as Always On, Log Shipping and Replication.
• Analytical skills to solve complex problems in a structured manner.
• Ability to test statistical methodology and techniques when analysing complex data and make appropriate recommendations.
• High‑level awareness of data quality and its importance in delivering high‑quality information.
• Good knowledge of change management and project management.
• Experience of data analysis and interpretation in a clinical environment.
• Knowledge of the NHS Agenda and information‑related issues would be an advantage.
• Awareness of current technologies and opportunities available to the Trust.
• Knowledge of the complex patient pathways across the Trust would be an advantage.

• Full driving licence and access to personal transport.
