UI/UX Design, Product Designer
Location: Hybrid, with remote working and occasional GS1 UK stakeholder sessions
Engagement period: Intermittent support from July 2026 to June 2027, starting with an initial 6-8-week discovery and design phase.
AccountabilitiesGS1 UK is looking for a hybrid UX/UI Designer to provide flexible, project-based support for My Number bank, our core membership service for managing GS1 identifiers, barcodes, QR codes powered by GS1 and trusted product data. This is not a continuous 12-month contract; we expect defined periods of work over the next year, starting with an initial 6-8-week phase and followed by further packages as priorities emerge.
The role would suit someone who can balance other client work and engage with GS1 UK during active design phases, producing clear, member-friendly Figma designs for stakeholder review and QWARE implementation using Mud Blazor.
My Number bank is GS1 UK's core digital service for members. It enables users to assign and manage GTINs and GLNs, generate compliant barcodes, create QR codes powered by GS1, maintain product data, and share trusted information through services such as Verified by GS1. The next phase of product development will enhance how members manage richer product data, use-case-specific attributes, validation feedback and data exports.
This is not a pure graphic or web design role. It requires a blend of UX thinking service design awareness, product design capability and hands-on UI execution. The designer will need to work collaboratively with GS1 UK product, standards, marketing and technical stakeholders, and with a QWARE UX developer who will implement the agreed designs using the Mud Blazor library. Designs should therefore be practical, component-aware and suitable for build within the existing My Number bank technology approach.
- Map end-to-end member journeys for key My Number bank workflows, including product data entry, attribute grouping, use-case filtering, validation feedback and data export journeys.
- Translate complex requirements into simple, intuitive and accessible digital experiences for GS1 UK members, including SMEs and larger organisations with more complex product data needs.
- Create wireframes, user flows, interaction patterns, UI components, clickable prototypes and detailed Figma designs ready for stakeholder review and developer handover.
- Design clear information architecture for product data screens, including category-relevant tabs, attribute groups, completeness indicators, guidance text and validation states.
- Support use-case-based experiences for areas such as AI chatbot readiness, HFSS, DRS, SEO/AEO, EU 1169, Digital Product Passport and Verified by GS1.
- Apply GS1 UK brand, web design and accessibility expectations consistently across all design outputs.
- Collaborate with GS1 UK stakeholders and a QWARE UX developer to validate that designs are buildable, scalable, aligned with roadmap priorities and suitable for implementation using the Mud Blazor library.
- Prepare clear design rationale, annotations and handover notes so developers understand intended behaviour, states, hierarchy and edge cases.
The first major package of work will support Phase 1 MVP of the wider product data management enhancement programme. This includes designing experiences for category-relevant product data tabs, additional product attributes, use-case filtering, attribute-specific validations and use-case-specific exports. The designer will need to ensure that the experience reduces complexity for members while supporting future growth in attributes, categories, regulations and data-sharing requirements.
- Show attributes, tabs and guidance only when relevant to the product category and selected use case.
- Keep filtering as a visibility layer so underlying product data is not duplicated or changed unnecessarily.
- Help members get product data right first time through clear guidance, validation feedback and completion indicators.
- Design for future scalability, including additional attributes, new use cases, regulatory requirements and product data services.
- Strong experience in UX/UI, product design or digital product design, ideally in B2B, SaaS, membership…
