Senior Data Scientist - Mining Analytics

About the Role

Our client is looking for an accomplished Senior Data Scientist to lead their data analytics initiatives within the mining sector, operating remotely from Randburg or any other location. You will leverage advanced statistical modeling, machine learning, and data mining techniques to extract actionable insights from vast datasets related to exploration, production, and operational efficiency. This role is instrumental in driving data-informed decision-making across the organization.

• Develop and deploy sophisticated machine learning models to predict ore grades, optimize extraction processes, and forecast equipment failures.
• Analyze large, complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for operational improvement.
• Collaborate with geologists, engineers, and operations teams to define analytical problems and deliver impactful solutions.
• Build data visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.
• Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to the advancement of the company's data science capabilities.

• Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of professional experience as a Data Scientist , with a significant focus on mining or industrial applications.
• Expertise in programming languages such as Python or R, and libraries like Scikit-learn, Tensor Flow, or PyTorch.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop).
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
