Director of Sports Analytics

About the Role

Our client is seeking a visionary and highly analytical leader to serve as the Director of Sports Analytics . This senior, fully remote position, operating from Sandton , is responsible for establishing and leading the organization's advanced analytics strategy within the Leisure & Sports sector. You will leverage data to drive performance improvements across all aspects of the business, from athlete performance to fan engagement and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned data science leader with a profound passion for sports and a proven ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for executive stakeholders in a remote setting.

• Develop and implement a comprehensive data analytics strategy to support strategic decision-making across the organization.
• Lead a team of data scientists and analysts, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
• Oversee the collection, cleaning, and analysis of large, complex datasets related to athlete performance, fan behavior, and business operations.
• Design and implement predictive models and machine learning algorithms to forecast trends and optimize outcomes.
• Communicate complex analytical findings and recommendations clearly and concisely to executive leadership and non-technical audiences.
• Champion a data-driven culture throughout the organization, promoting the use of analytics in all aspects of the business.

• Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in data science and analytics, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Extensive experience with statistical modeling, machine learning, and data mining techniques.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and database query languages like SQL.
• Strong understanding of the Leisure & Sports industry and the application of data analytics within it.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to manage a remote team effectively from Sandton .
