About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly analytical and innovative Data Scientist to join their fully remote team, focusing on extracting actionable insights from vast datasets generated by mining operations. This role is critical for driving data-informed decision-making across exploration, production, and processing. You will leverage advanced statistical modeling, machine learning techniques, and data visualization tools to identify trends, predict outcomes, and optimize various aspects of the mining value chain.
The ideal candidate is adept at working with large, complex datasets and communicating technical findings to non-technical stakeholders in a remote setting.
- Collect, clean, and preprocess large datasets from various mining sources, including sensors, operational logs, and geological surveys.
- Develop and deploy predictive models for ore grade, equipment failure, production output, and safety events using machine learning algorithms.
- Design and implement data visualization dashboards to monitor key performance indicators and operational trends.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover hidden patterns and correlations relevant to mining efficiency and resource management.
- Collaborate with domain experts (geologists, engineers) to define analytical requirements and interpret results.
- Communicate complex analytical findings and recommendations clearly to management and operational teams through reports and presentations.
- Stay current with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and their applications in the mining industry.
- Master's or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a quantitative field.
- Proven experience (5+ years) as a Data Scientist, with a strong portfolio of analytical projects.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and expertise in relevant libraries (e.g., Pandas, Scikit-learn, Tensor Flow).
- Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and database management (SQL, No
SQL). - Strong understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning techniques, and experimental design.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, particularly in a remote team environment.
- Highly competitive remote salary and performance-based bonuses.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
- Generous professional development budget and access to online courses.
- Flexible working hours and the opportunity to work from anywhere globally.
- A challenging and intellectually stimulating role with significant impact.
