About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative Data Scientist to join their advanced analytics team, working remotely from Port Elizabeth . This role is pivotal in leveraging vast datasets generated from mining operations to derive actionable insights, optimize processes, and predict future trends. You will develop sophisticated models and algorithms to address complex challenges in areas such as ore grade prediction, equipment maintenance, and operational efficiency.

Working in a fully remote capacity, you will collaborate with geologists, engineers, and data engineers to translate business requirements into data-driven solutions. This is an exceptional opportunity for a data scientist passionate about applying cutting-edge techniques to the unique problems of the mining sector .

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models for predictive analytics and optimization in mining.
  • Analyze large and complex datasets from various sources, including geological surveys, operational logs, and sensor data.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify key business problems and translate them into data science projects.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes for effective data ingestion and transformation.
  • Communicate complex findings and insights clearly and concisely through visualizations and reports to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and their applications in the mining industry .
Requirements
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a Data Scientist, with experience in the resource or mining sector.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and relevant libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, Tensor Flow, PyTorch).
  • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Expertise in statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and data mining techniques.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.
