Position: Data Scientist - Energy Analytics (Remote)

About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative Data Scientist to join their fully remote team, focusing on energy analytics for their Oil & Gas operations, with primary engagement in projects related to Stellenbosch . This role will leverage advanced data science techniques to extract actionable insights from vast datasets, driving improvements in operational efficiency, predictive maintenance, and exploration success. You will be instrumental in building machine learning models, performing complex statistical analyses, and communicating findings to stakeholders, all within a flexible, remote work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deploy machine learning models for predictive maintenance, production optimization, and risk assessment.
  • Analyze large, complex datasets from various sources, including seismic, production, and operational logs.
  • Design and conduct A/B tests and other experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of new models and strategies.
  • Create compelling data visualizations and dashboards to communicate insights to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with domain experts in geology, engineering, and operations to define analytical problems and solutions.
Requirements
  • Master's or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience as a Data Scientist , with a strong focus on the energy sector .
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and libraries for data manipulation and machine learning (e.g., Pandas, Scikit-learn, Tensor Flow).
  • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and SQL databases.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, essential for a remote position.
