The incumbent will form part of a team responsible for implementing, administering, and managing various systems and platforms within the Information Technology environment at Stellenbosch University (SU). This is a dynamic environment where skills can be developed and tasks are assigned as the need changes. At present, there are opportunities within the Microsoft Systems on-premises and cloud-based environments.

Installation, daily maintenance and monitoring of computer systems and servers at Stellenbosch University. (This position may from time to time require after hours system maintenance).

• National Senior Certificate, with eight years' relevant experience, OR a relevant IT degree/diploma with three years' relevant experience, OR a relevant IT certificate with six years' relevant experience.
• The candidate must already be a system administrator working daily with server software.
• Sound knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server as operating system.
• Sound knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server.
• Sound knowledge of system architecture design and capabilities.
• Sound knowledge of system security.
• The ability to take the lead in the field of expertise.
• The ability to transfer knowledge to peers.
• The ability to solve problems innovatively.
• Proven analytical skills.
• A high level of accuracy.
• Sound verbal and written communication skills in Afrikaans or English.
• The ability to work both in a team as well as independently.
• Outstanding interpersonal relations.

Candidates may be subjected to aptitude, psychometric and proficiency tests.

(The incumbent will be required to accept and sign the SU-system administrator code of conduct).

• Any other IT related industry qualifications.
• ITIL v4 certification.
• Experience in Microsoft 365 and Azure Security.
• Experience in creating and debugging Power Shell scripts.
• Experience with VMware virtualisation technologies.
