IT Infrastructure Engineer Gauteng​/Hybrid – ISB

Our client is seeking an Advanced Infrastructure Engineer to join the core Infrastructure Engineering squad within their global IT Hub.

This role focuses on delivering high-availability Linux solutions and frameworks that are resilient, encrypted, and secure across both office and critical production manufacturing environments. Operating as a Linux Client Engineer, you will combine practical implementation with technical theory to design, automate, and maintain standardized Linux client platforms across physical, virtual, and cloud infrastructure.

• Linux Administration & Automation Mastery: 5+ years of hands‑on experience configuring Unix/Linux operating systems (Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, SUSE) combined with deep expertise in Ansible Automation and Ansible Tower.
• Scripting & Git Ops Engineering:
  Advanced proficiency in shell scripting (Bash, Perl, Python) alongside Git Hub and Git Ops repository management to drive config-as-code and automated deployment pipelines.
• Autonomous Delivery & Security Hardening: A mostly autonomous engineer capable of running vulnerability assessments, applying patch life cycles, and managing Incident, Problem, and Change (PIC) workflows within an Agile environment.

• Degree in Information Systems or equivalent commercial experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of dedicated IT operations experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of configuration management and automation experience.
• Strong background in Linux OS environments (RHEL, Ubuntu, SLES), version control (Git Hub), and cloud technologies (AWS, Azure).

• Strong hands‑on experience with Unix/Linux environments (Ubuntu, RHEL, SUSE).
• Deep experience with Ansible Automation and Ansible Tower.
• Deep experience in shell scripting (Bash, Perl, Python) and Power Shell.
• Deep experience with Git Hub and Git Ops repositories.

• Deep experience with secure coding practices and config-as-code.
• Solid understanding of networking concepts (DNS, DHCP, SSH, TCP/IP) and proxy configurations.
• Knowledge of system monitoring tools (Grafana or similar) and enterprise backup solutions.

• Certifications:
  
  RHCSA, RHCE (ex294/ex407), RHCA, SUSE, or Veritas Infoscale certifications.
• High Availability & Systems:
  Knowledge of Veritas Infoscale, Rudder, VMWare virtualization, Private Cloud, and Windows Server.
• Containers & Orchestration:
  Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Podman, Docker, Kubernetes, and Open Shift.
• Observability & Management Tools:
  Knowledge of Dynatrace, Splunk, Red Hat Satellite, and Service Now.
• Methodologies:
  Basic understanding of ITIL v4, PIC processes (Problem-Incident-Change), and the Agile Working Model.

• Platform Design & Maintenance:
  Design, develop, and operate standardized Linux client platforms for office and manufacturing production environments, creating base images, software packages, and configuration standards.
• Infrastructure Administration:
  Install, configure, administer, and support Linux systems across physical, virtual, and cloud-based infrastructures (e.g., AWS, Azure).
• Security & Vulnerability Management:
  Conduct vulnerability assessments, implement remediation measures, execute patching life cycles, and enforce corporate security hardening standards.
• Automation & Monitoring:
  Automate system deployment and operational tasks using Ansible and shell scripts; monitor system performance and troubleshoot complex issues to ensure high availability.
• Agile & ITIL Compliance:
  Track user stories in Jira, support ITIL PIC…
