Data Privacy Officer

Our client is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Data Privacy Officer to lead their data protection efforts in East London . This position is responsible for ensuring the organization complies with all applicable data privacy laws and regulations, such as POPIA and GDPR. You will develop and implement privacy policies, conduct privacy impact assessments, manage data subject requests, and promote a culture of privacy awareness throughout the organization.

This is a key role for safeguarding sensitive information and maintaining customer trust.

• Develop, implement, and maintain the organization's data privacy strategy and policies.
• Ensure compliance with relevant data protection laws and regulations (e.g., POPIA, GDPR).
• Conduct Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new projects and systems involving personal data.
• Manage and respond to data subject access requests (DSARs) and other privacy-related inquiries.
• Oversee data breach response procedures and ensure timely notification to authorities and affected individuals as required.
• Provide training and awareness programs on data privacy best practices to employees.

• Bachelor's degree in Law, Information Management, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in data privacy , compliance, or a related legal/IT security field.
• In-depth knowledge of data protection regulations such as POPIA and GDPR.
• Experience with privacy management tools and frameworks.
• Strong understanding of information security principles and risk management.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
