Job Description & How to Apply Below
Yourgi is on a mission to become Earth's most trusted pet care connector, connecting pet parents with a reliable local network of certified professionals, pet resorts, and veterinary centers. Backed by a passionate team, our mission is to make pet care simple, accessible, and joyful for all. Because pets aren't just animals—they're family.
Yourgi's mission is to be pet parents' most trusted source for pet care services. We are building a differentiated experience for both pet parents and pros through our marketplace and software platform. Pet parents book grooming, boarding, daycare, and training, and independent pet-care pros run their businesses with Yourgi Pro, Connect, and Match. We also power booking for Destination Pet's own locations.
You'll build Yourgi's engineering services function from the ground up:
Dev Ops, SRE, release engineering, infrastructure as code, data pipelines, security operations, and data governance. Your job is to make deploys boring, rollbacks instant, production visible, and data trustworthy. You'll lead a small team of Dev Ops and SRE engineers, some nearshore, stay hands-on, and set the operating practices every product team follows.
LOCATION :
Remote (US only; must be authorized to work in the US, no visa sponsorship)
REPORTS TO:
VP of Engineering PAY: $190,000 base +10% bonusCORE RESPONSIBILITES:
Dev Ops and release engineering: own CI/CD for API, web, and mobile (Git Hub Actions and Azure Pipelines), with unattended deploys, staged or canary releases, one-click rollback, and controlled production deploy access.
SRE: stand up production monitoring and alerting on AWS (Cloud Watch, X-Ray, synthetics, and Pager Duty), define SLOs for critical customer journeys, and replace noisy alert channels with alerts that are actionable and owned.
Incident and change management: launch a shared on-call rotation, incident response, blameless postmortems, and weekly operational reviews.
Infrastructure as code: bring AWS infrastructure and database operations under code (Open Tofu, Terraform, or CDK), with consistent environments and reviewed changes.
Data pipelines: own the reliability of pipelines that move data from our services and partner systems into the data lake and warehouse, with monitoring, retries, and clear owners.
Security operations: run secrets management, least-privilege IAM, dependency and vulnerability scanning, and supply-chain hygiene in every pipeline.
Data governance: set standards for data access, retention, classification, and logging so customer data is handled safely across systems.
Measures and cost: report DORA metrics (deploy frequency, lead time, change failure rate, and time to restore) and make cloud cost visible by team and service.
People: hire, manage, and develop Dev Ops and SRE engineers, and help product teams own their services in production.
30/60/90 plan First 30 Days:
Inventory the existing pipelines, environments, AWS accounts, alerts, data pipelines, and production access permissions. Establish baseline monitoring for the most critical services. By the end of the first 30 days, review the current-state inventory and the key operational and security risks with the VP of Engineering, and ensure that baseline monitoring dashboards are live.
By Day 60:
Establish and launch the on-call rotation and incident management process. Deliver at least one pipeline with automated deployment and rollback capabilities. Publish the initial standards for secrets management, access controls, and data handling. By day 60, ensure the on-call rotation is staffed, the first incident postmortems are documented, weekly operational dashboards are being reported, and the standards have been approved.
By Day 90:
Define service-level objectives (SLOs) and configure alerts for the five most important customer journeys. Transition most production services into a continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) process. Introduce a monthly report covering DORA metrics and cloud costs. By the end of 90 days, ensure that SLOs and paging alerts are operational for all five customer journeys, deliver the first DORA and cloud-cost report to leadership, and establish an agreed-upon team hiring plan.
