Remote Fiber Optic Technician

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated Remote Fiber Optic Technician to join their expanding national team. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within South Africa, provided you have reliable internet connectivity. You will be responsible for the remote installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of fiber optic networks, ensuring seamless connectivity and optimal performance for our diverse client base.

This role requires a proactive individual with a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of fiber optic technologies, splicing techniques, and testing procedures. You will play a crucial role in upholding the integrity and efficiency of our client's advanced fiber optic infrastructure, contributing directly to the delivery of high-speed internet services across the country. The ideal candidate is an independent problem-solver who thrives in a remote work environment and possesses exceptional communication skills.

• Remotely diagnose and resolve issues related to fiber optic network performance and connectivity.
• Perform remote configuration and testing of fiber optic equipment, including OLTs, ONTs, and other network devices.
• Analyze network performance data and generate reports on network health and efficiency.
• Coordinate with field technicians for hands-on repairs or installations when remote resolution is not possible.
• Document troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and network changes accurately.
• Provide technical support to end-users and field teams regarding fiber optic services.
• Stay updated on the latest fiber optic technologies, standards, and best practices.
• Participate in on-call schedules to provide remote support outside of standard business hours.
• Proactively identify potential network issues and implement preventive measures.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on network upgrades and maintenance plans.

• A relevant technical diploma or certification in Telecommunications, Electronics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience working with fiber optic networks.
• Demonstrated knowledge of fiber optic splicing, termination, and testing methodologies.
• Proficiency with fiber optic test equipment (e.g., OTDR, optical power meters).
• Experience with network management systems and remote diagnostic tools.
• Strong understanding of FTTx architectures and telecommunications principles.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, especially in a remote context.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical issues.
• Self-discipline and strong time management skills to effectively manage a remote workload.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a distributed team.
• Reliable high-speed internet connection and a suitable home office setup.
