Senior Database Administrator; DBA)

Our client, a prominent data management and analytics firm located in Upington, Northern Cape , is seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to oversee their critical database infrastructure. You will be responsible for installation, configuration, patching, upgrading, monitoring, and tuning of various database systems.

• Install, configure, upgrade, and patch database software (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Monitor database performance and tune for optimal efficiency and responsiveness.
• Implement and manage robust backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
• Perform regular database health checks and proactively address potential issues.
• Manage database security, including user access, roles, and permissions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, providing timely solutions.
• Develop and maintain scripts for routine database maintenance tasks.
• Plan and execute database capacity management and growth projections.
• Collaborate with development teams to optimize database design and queries.
• Stay current with database technologies, best practices, and emerging trends.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience as a Database Administrator.
• Proven experience with major RDBMS such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
• Strong knowledge of database performance tuning, backup, and recovery techniques.
• Experience with database security implementation and management.
• Proficiency in writing SQL queries and stored procedures.
• Familiarity with cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database) is a plus.
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Power Shell, Bash) for automation.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
