Senior Data Scientist; Finance

Our client, a pioneering fintech company operating in Randburg, Gauteng , is seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Scientist with a strong background in finance. This role is instrumental in developing and deploying advanced analytical models to drive product innovation, optimize customer experiences, and inform strategic business decisions. The ideal candidate will leverage machine learning, statistical modeling, and data mining techniques to extract actionable insights from complex financial datasets.

• Develop and implement machine learning models for applications such as fraud detection, credit scoring, risk assessment, and customer segmentation.
• Analyze large, complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for business growth.
• Design and conduct A/B tests and other experiments to evaluate model performance and product features.
• Build data pipelines and reporting dashboards to monitor key business metrics.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to deploy models into production environments.
• Communicate complex analytical findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and financial technologies.
• Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to the team's technical knowledge base.

• Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in data science, with a significant focus on financial applications.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with relevant libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, Tensor Flow, PyTorch, Pandas).
• Strong understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and data mining techniques.
• Experience with SQL and working with large-scale databases.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies (e.g., Spark).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, comfortable working in a remote team environment.
• Domain knowledge in finance, banking, or fintech is highly advantageous.
