DescriptionThis is a remote position with occasional travel to the Mountain region for in‑person agency visits. Ideal candidates will live and work remotely in AZ, UT, CO, NM, NV, WY or surrounding states. This is a ranged posting; level offered will be based on candidate experience at manager discretion.
Responsibilities- Develop, grow, and maintain diversified books of business while working closely with agents and brokers to assess risks, determine premiums, set conditions, and negotiate deals that maximize profitability.
- Balance data analytics with human intuition to make underwriting decisions.
- Maintain and nurture relationships with agents and brokers, presenting proposals and negotiating terms.
- Mentor underwriters, sharing best practices and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Document account reviews, state‑compliant sign‑offs, referrals, letters of authority, and adhere to underwriting guidelines.
- Strategic Account Manager:
Write new accounts with premiums of $100,000 and below; grow agent and broker relationships and pursue renewals. - Problem solver:
Analyze data to determine risk selection, premiums, policy terms, and identify growth opportunities. - Clear communicator:
Present proposals, negotiate deals, and obtain approvals, maintaining strong relationships. - Collaborative teammate:
Contribute to overall team success, mentor underwriters, and drive continuous improvement. - Conscientious professional:
Ensure paperwork completeness, document compliance, and provide referrals as required.
- 3–5+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience.
- Experience with multi‑line insurance products.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
- Effective territory management skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Aptitude for building rewarding relationships with agents, brokers, and underwriters.
- Command of insurance finance and actuarial concepts.
- Thorough knowledge of commercial insurance products, underwriting, pricing, and marketplaces, including regulatory issues in relevant territories.
- Understanding of contract language, regulatory and policy differences among applicable states.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement processes and tools.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Chartered Property Casual Underwriter or other professional insurance designation preferred.
