• Makes timely and appropriate contacts and completes investigation to determine coverage, liability and damages for very complex and specialized claims.
• Determines coverage, drafts coverage correspondence, and responds to coverage questions raised by insureds and others.
• Determines exposure, establishes adequate reserves and makes timely adjustments as required.
• Directs activities of internal and external resources (e.g., independent adjusters, appraisers, attorneys); identifies questionable claims and consults with SIU as appropriate.
• Determines settlement value of the loss and negotiates settlements within authority; provides recommendations for settlements and disposition of claims exceeding authority.
• Documents all relevant activity on assigned files and suggests additional activity as needed.
• Communicates with underwriting partners regarding claims trends and legal climate; provides expertise on coverage changes or enhancements as requested.
• Maintains current knowledge of regulatory and legal environments and applies it effectively; stays abreast of state license requirements and participates in continuing education as required.
• Coaches or trains less experienced claim representatives; develops and leads technical training and provides guidance to other departments as needed.

• Bachelor’s or equivalent experience degree required
• JD may be required depending on business unit needs
• 7-10 years of progressively more complex, specialized claims handling experience
• Experience with Payment Performance Bonds (desired)

Typical base salary range for this position is $119,000 – $157,000, with adjustments for location and experience. For candidates in San Francisco, CA and the NYC metro area, the range is $138,000 - $161,000. In addition to base salary, full-time employees are eligible for bonus potential and a comprehensive benefits package including:
