This position provides the highest level of specialized technical claim handling for the most serious, complex, and highly valued claims for an excess and surplus lines writer. The role requires experience in handling Commercial General Liability with a focus on Construction Defect claims. It involves providing technical advice to associates and other functional areas such as defense counsel, independents, support, and less‑experienced technical staff.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.

• Analyzing liability and damage issues in connection with claims made against our insureds and maintaining appropriate documentation.
• Analyzing insurance coverage issues and drafting coverage positional letters reflecting the same.
• Retaining and supervising outside counsel in the defense of our insureds to effectively resolve claims.
• Evaluating all pending matters in connection with the posting and maintaining accurate reserves.
• Maintaining and developing relationships with insureds, brokers, and outside counsel.
• Providing support and information to underwriters in connection with their evaluation of risk on particular accounts.
• Composing and transmitting frequent complex Large Loss Reports and other detailed reporting documents in a timely basis.
• Managing and monitoring file caseload through the use of various resources.

• Minimum 10 years of experience handling E&S claims and/or a 4‑year degree plus.
• Experience in handling Commercial General Liability with a focus on Construction Defect claims.
• Full knowledge of insurance contracts, investigation techniques, legal requirements, and insurance regulation.
• Aptitude for evaluating, analyzing, and interpreting contracts and other complex information.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Intermediate knowledge of computer programs in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel, and e‑mail.
• Current Claims Adjuster licenses in one or more states preferred but willingness to obtain additional state licensures.

This position can be fully remote for candidates outside a commutable distance to our offices. Offices are based in Glen Allen, VA, and Scottsdale, AZ on a hybrid schedule—four days in the office and one remote day, as appropriate.
