This senior underwriting role focuses on evaluating exposures and risks for nonprofit human service organizations and education institutions. The position requests analysis, appraisal, and assessment of risks to determine appropriate coverages and premium pricing that are competitive and adequately protective. Accounts may reach up to $1,000,000 in written premium.

• Deliver profitable outcomes on complex niche business through effective risk selection by:
  • Analyzing, selecting and profitably pricing business with prescriptive terms and conditions of coverage.
  • Examining inspection reports, location, risk, financial and other tools to identify new or unresolved concerns.
  • Communicating with Risk Control for inspections, follow‑ups and service needs for insureds.
  • Driving corrective action or remediation strategies on renewal accounts.
  • Escalating referrals timely, on accounts requiring additional review or approval by higher‑level underwriters.
  • Adhering to service expectations and regulatory compliance by timely release of renewals, non‑renewals and conditional notices.
• Accountable for achieving key performance indicators of the portfolio including:
  • Developing and furthering successful relationships with distribution partners through:
    • Regular portfolio review calls.
    • Meeting voice‑of‑the‑customer guidelines.
    • Limited travel to partner offices.
  • Consistently meeting voice‑of‑the‑customer standards.
  • Coordinating with the distribution team to build pipeline, resolve issues, address concerns or conflicts, and oversee change management.
  • Communicating regularly with portfolio team members about agency health and market conditions that could impact the portfolio.
• Cultivate a high‑performing culture:
  • Provide superior customer service and business acumen.
  • Mentor support staff throughout career development.
  • Conduct peer audits and approve underwriting decisions (LOAs) for lower authority levels.
  • Assist in training new hires and internal promotions by offering continuous mentoring and feedback.
  • Review, mentor, and approve referrals for lower authority level associates.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.

• Required Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze and make decisions in a timely manner.

  • Work toward or hold a CPCU or other industry‑equivalent designation.

• $78,600 – $131,000 commensurate with experience, plus bonus eligibility.
• $86,400 – $144,000 commensurate with experience in CA, CT, MA, NJ, NY, and PA, plus bonus eligibility.
