Salary Range: $55,261.00 - $88,274.00 (may vary based on level, scope, etc.)

This is a national range; the actual salary depends on role scope, education, experience, location, and level. Position may be eligible for an annual bonus.

Position Summary

Exercises independent discretion or judgment in handling property claims within a designated level of authority, servicing assigned territory, and may handle litigated claims.

This is a remote, work‑from‑home position in Indiana, ideally for candidates living in Howard County or surrounding areas. The hiring manager will also consider candidates for Property Adjuster II; level is based on experience and qualifications.

Company car and equipment to work from home will be provided. Good time management and organization skills preferred. Ability to drive/travel regularly within the assigned territory.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contact policyholders regarding property claims within authority. Conduct investigations, interview insureds and witnesses, inspect damage, and prepare estimates.
  • Handle property claims within designated authority, set and maintain adequate reserves, obtain and review reports and related materials, evaluate information for coverage and claim value, determine payments, issue checks or declines as required.
  • Document claim files and submit final report for closure.
  • Identify subrogation situations and initiate appropriate action.
  • Serve assigned territory and bring claims to conclusion.
  • Interact with agents and district sales managers on matters of mutual concern.
  • Handle property claims involving damages or coverage; may handle litigated claims, negotiate with plaintiff attorneys, or coordinate litigation with defense counsel.
  • Develop and apply knowledge of estimating practices and procedures for property claims adjustment.
  • Attend industry‑related training programs and other sessions to stay current on policy changes, interpretation, or new legislation.
  • Complete Technical Learning Center Training within one year of hire date.
  • Participate on Catastrophe Team when required.

Qualifications

Minimum Education al and Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED and two years of claims handling experience, or equivalent.
  • High School Diploma or GED and successful completion of ERIE‑sponsored formal education.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

Additional

Experience:

  • Must live in assigned territory unless a change is approved by the company.
  • Position requires catastrophe duty service, which may include travel on short notice to other locations for periods exceeding two consecutive weeks.

Designations and/or Licenses:

  • Willingness to pursue and complete Technical Learning Center Training required.
  • Successful completion of AIC 33 and AIC 35 preferred.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain required licenses.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required.
  • Ability to move over 50 lbs with lifting aids (often 20‑50%).
  • Climb/ access heights (rarely).
  • Driving frequently (50‑80%).
  • Lifting/ moving 0‑20 lbs (often 20‑50%).
  • Lifting/ moving 20‑50 lbs (often 20‑50%).
