Description
Senior Technical Claims Specialist in Construction Complex performs coverage determination, investigation of complex commercial casualty claims, liability assessment, reserve setting and adjustment, claim evaluation, settlement negotiation, claim authorization, and resolution. The role is a subject‑matter expert within the Construction Vertical, focusing on bodily injury and property damage claims and does not handle Construction Defect losses.
Preferred location: candidate should live within a 50‑mile radius of one of the hub offices (Boston, MA;
Westborough, MA;
Plano, TX;
Suwanee, GA; Indianapolis, IN; Hoffman Estates, IL; Lake Oswego, OR; Las Vegas, NV; Chandler, AZ; Weatogue, CT). Remote work may be considered if this requirement is not met.
- Act as claim owner to determine coverage, investigate claims, assess liability, set and adjust reserves, evaluate claims, negotiate settlements, authorize and pay claims, and deny claims when appropriate.
- Review lawsuit documentation, claim files, investigations, and related materials; establish actions to resolve the lawsuit.
- Determine loss coverage amounts, discovery plans, reserve setting, and negotiations.
- Establish appropriate working teams (Home Office Legal, Defense Counsel, Home Office Claims) based on allegations.
- Manage outside counsel practices and billing activities.
- Ensure financial processing of claims is secure and protect sensitive claim file information.
- Train and mentor staff; manage relationships and liaise with business partners such as Underwriting and Reinsurance.
- Keep abreast of legislation, court decisions, trends, and specialty coverage issues.
- Analyze impacts on claims policies and procedures and advise Claims accordingly.
- Take appropriate action to meet management expectations.
- Participate in special projects.
- Bachelor’s degree and 5‑7 years of claims adjusting experience.
- Advanced knowledge of commercial casualty claim investigation, coverage evaluation, reserving, expense management, resolution strategy, negotiation, litigation management, and the insurance legal and regulatory environment.
- Intermediate to advanced customer focus, problem solving, communication, teamwork, adaptability, and the ability to work independently and execute thoroughly.
- Construction Liability or Commercial General Liability claims experience preferred.
