Position: Insurance Investigator 2

THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Insurance Department, Property Casualty and Life Division wants you to apply for this Insurance Investigator 2 position. Investigating consumer complaints to determine company and producer compliance with existing statutes and regulations, as well as educating consumers and responding to their insurance‑related inquiries, are some of the impactful challenges you will take on with our intrepid team.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will review and investigate various types of complex consumer complaints in relation to property and casualty lines of insurance. This includes preparing detailed notes and written reports in addition to handling numerous telephone calls and inquiries from the general public and licensees regarding various insurance regulations, statutes, adjudications, and industry trends. Effective verbal and written communication through timely and professional responses is critical for success in this role.

Your responsibilities will rely on your detailed knowledge of insurance principles, practices, and laws and involve handling special assignments and projects as needed. This includes spotting and reporting any trends in suspected violations of insurance law and regulations. Our team may also rely on you to be available to represent the Department at consumer events or Disaster Recovery Centers, to travel on Commonwealth business as necessary, and to testify at formal hearings.

Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full‑time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 60‑minute lunch.
  • Telework:
    You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part‑time, up to three days per week; and two days per week in the office. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high‑speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

    The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
  • Salary:
    In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Insurance Investigator 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Seven years of experience as an insurance investigator, underwriter, agent, broker or claims adjuster. College‑level training may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for four years of the required experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
