Executive Underwriter / AVP, Underwriter Director – Construction Professional Liability

Zurich North America seeks an experienced Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriter Director – Construction Professional Liability to join our Specialties Construction team. This role may be based at any Zurich office location or in a hybrid remote arrangement.

Qualification level will be determined by the hiring manager based on your experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed here.

• Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating annual rules.
• Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives on referrals and other business‑related needs.
• Provide guidance to lower‑level associates.
• Build and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition.
• Serve as a help point for agents, brokers, and customers, supporting the sales culture.
• Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
• Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
• Qualify accounts to align with the organization’s appetite and sound business opportunities.
• Conduct broker/customer and onsite calls with a planned and well‑prepared purpose.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent + 5+ years in Underwriting or Market‑Facing area.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent + 10+ years in Claims or Underwriting Support area.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice + Associate Degree + 3+ years Underwriting/Market‑Facing experience.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice + Associate Degree + 8+ years Claims/Underwriting Support experience.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience working under time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience working in a team environment.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent + 7+ years Underwriting or Market‑Facing experience.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent + 14+ years Claims or Underwriting Support experience.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice + Associate Degree + 5+ years Underwriting/Market‑Facing experience.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice + Associate Degree + 12+ years Claims/Underwriting Support experience.
• Experience with Microsoft Office.

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Technical knowledge of Construction Professional Liability Underwriting.
• Established broker relationships (retail brokers).
• Sales execution mindset.
• Creative problem‑solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Salary ranges vary by role, location, skills, and experience.

• Executive Underwriter: $98,500.00 – $ (15% short‑term incentive bonus eligibility).
• AVP, Underwriter Director: $ – $ (20% short‑term incentive bonus eligibility).
