Job Overview

Zurich North America is hiring a Contract Surety Underwriter to join our large account contract space. The role is highly technical, market‑focused, and requires expertise in Surety lines of business. The position involves approximately 20% travel and is open to candidates located in various U.S. locations, including Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, and several virtual offices.

• Production and underwriting of new and renewal Surety business
• Managing a large book of prominent accounts
• Internal marketing and production within Zurich North America to support cross‑sell efforts
• Execution of the external marketing strategy
• Adherence to underwriting rules, guidelines, insurance laws, regulations, and the Zurich Way of underwriting
• Establish new and develop existing agency and broker relationships
• Work within limits and authorities on assignments of varying degrees of complexity

• High School Diploma or equivalent and 5+ years in underwriting or market‑facing role
• High School Diploma or equivalent and 10+ years in claims or underwriting support
• Zurich approved apprenticeship program with associate degree and 3+ years in underwriting or market‑facing role
• Zurich approved apprenticeship program with associate degree and 8+ years in claims or underwriting support
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
• Experience working in a team environment

• High School Diploma or equivalent and 7+ years in underwriting or market‑facing role
• High School Diploma or equivalent and 14+ years in claims or underwriting support
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with associate degree and 5+ years in underwriting or market‑facing role
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with associate degree and 12+ years in claims or underwriting support
• Experience with Microsoft Office

Executive Underwriter: $98,500 – $165,000 (15% short‑term bonus). AVP, Underwriting Director: $130,000 – $215,000 (20% short‑term bonus).

Multiple U.S. locations (Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Overland Park, Houston, and several virtual offices). Remote working is available.
