Motor Trade Underwriter – Manchester or Birmingham

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Underwriting Team as a Motor Trade Underwriter!

At Covéa Insurance, we’re all about protecting what matters most – whether it’s your home, your car, or your business. With our award‑winning customer service and a wide range of insurance products, we’re here to make a real difference.

This is a hybrid position, combining the best of both worlds – working from home and spending time in our Birmingham, Manchester or Halifax office.

This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to grow, develop, and be part of something great.

Core responsibilities:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with a defined group of brokers while developing new regional broker connections.
  • Apply Covéa’s technical underwriting rates and criteria accurately across all risks, referring cases beyond authority to senior underwriters.
  • Contribute to Covéa’s annual financial plan by managing renewals, mid‑term adjustments (MTAs), and handling new business enquiries.
  • Deliver high‑quality service through efficient processing and administration of commercial combined renewals and MTAs.
  • Uphold agreed service levels for internal and external customers while maintaining accurate audit trails in Covéa systems.
  • Stay current on commercial property and liability markets, regional broking trends, and relevant legislation or litigation impacting underwriting.
What you’ll need to succeed:
  • Strong knowledge of general insurance underwriting principles, with the ability to accurately process property‑biased risks and escalates when required.
  • Proven experience in building and maintaining effective relationships with both internal teams and external brokers.
  • Solid awareness of market trends, legal developments, and industry changes impacting commercial insurance.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral), combined with strong problem‑solving abilities, prioritisation, and deadline management.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, supported by strong PC and systems proficiency; proactive and innovative in approach.
  • Professionally qualified to A Level standard (minimum Grade C in Maths & English GCSE), with CII progression preferred.

Not sure if you tick every box? That’s okay! At Covéa we know that great people don’t always meet every single requirement listed in a job ad. If this role excites you and you think you could be a good fit, we’d love to hear from you – so go ahead and apply! We’re all about building a diverse, inclusive team where everyone can thrive.
