Motor Trade Underwriter – Manchester or Birmingham
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Underwriting Team as a Motor Trade Underwriter!

This is a hybrid position, combining the best of both worlds – working from home and spending time in our Birmingham, Manchester or Halifax office.

Core responsibilities:- Build and maintain strong relationships with a defined group of brokers while developing new regional broker connections.
- Apply Covéa’s technical underwriting rates and criteria accurately across all risks, referring cases beyond authority to senior underwriters.
- Contribute to Covéa’s annual financial plan by managing renewals, mid‑term adjustments (MTAs), and handling new business enquiries.
- Deliver high‑quality service through efficient processing and administration of commercial combined renewals and MTAs.
- Uphold agreed service levels for internal and external customers while maintaining accurate audit trails in Covéa systems.
- Stay current on commercial property and liability markets, regional broking trends, and relevant legislation or litigation impacting underwriting.
- Strong knowledge of general insurance underwriting principles, with the ability to accurately process property‑biased risks and escalates when required.
- Proven experience in building and maintaining effective relationships with both internal teams and external brokers.
- Solid awareness of market trends, legal developments, and industry changes impacting commercial insurance.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral), combined with strong problem‑solving abilities, prioritisation, and deadline management.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, supported by strong PC and systems proficiency; proactive and innovative in approach.
- Professionally qualified to A Level standard (minimum Grade C in Maths & English GCSE), with CII progression preferred.
