Zurich gives you the tools and support to construct a rewarding career in the Insurance industry. We are looking for an Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter – Construction Casualty to work remotely in Tennessee, preferably based in the Nashville area.
This role involves applying marketing and analytical skills along with knowledge of buildings to analyze and underwrite new and renewal Casualty business in the US and internationally. It is a market-facing position requiring a strong sales execution mindset and knowledge of commercial construction casualty policies. Travel is expected to be approximately 20%.
The role will be filled at either the Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based on the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed.
Key Accountabilities- Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.
- Develop, maintain, and collaborate with Line of Business representatives and other business-related needs as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition; work with customers and distributors to determine insurance-related needs and provide solutions.
- Support the organization’s sales culture by being a help point for agents, brokers and customers.
- Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
- Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
- Qualify accounts to meet the organization’s appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.
- Make broker/customer on-site calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.
- Underwriting Specialist:
High School Diploma or equivalent with 3+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area, or 6+ years in claims or underwriting support;
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 1+ year (or 4+ years in claims or underwriting support) of experience; knowledge of lines of business and regulatory guidelines; knowledge of quotes for new and renewal business;
Microsoft Office proficiency. - Executive Underwriter:
High School Diploma or equivalent with 5+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area, or 10+ years in claims or underwriting support;
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3+ years in underwriting or market-facing area (or 8+ years in claims or underwriting support); knowledge of Microsoft Office; experience meeting time constraints for quotes on new and renewal business; ability to work in a team environment.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Commercial Construction Casualty underwriting experience and broker relationships in the South/Southeast region.
- Ability to effectively assess risk with strong relationship-building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating skills.
- Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business; excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, and national/local filing regulations and guidelines.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and progression of positions with increasing responsibility.
- PC and related software skills; CPCU and ARM a plus.
At Zurich, compensation for roles is influenced by a variety of factors such as location, role, skill set, and experience. Zurich commits to providing a fair and reasonable compensation range for each role. The combined salary range for this position is 66,900.00 – USD. The proposed salary range for the Underwriting Specialist is 66,900.00 – USD with a 10% short-term incentive bonus;
the proposed salary range for the Executive Underwriter is 88,500.00 – USD with a 15% short-term incentive bonus. Zurich North America is an equal opportunity employer.
