Role Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Underwriter to join our successful Real Estate Team. This opportunity is ideal for either a new entrant or those with experience in the insurance industry who are keen to gain and develop their technical expertise.
Key ResponsibilitiesYou will play an active role in contributing towards the delivery of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across your team, underwriting business and building strong relationships with both internal and external customers.
The quality of our Underwriters is pivotal to Allianz’s success; no risk is the same, so you’ll need to use your strong analytical and communication skills, as well as technical knowledge, to influence our brokers and develop strong trading relationships.

This is a hybrid role that will involve working from home combined with a minimum of 2‑3 days per week in our London office.
Salary InformationPay:
Circa £31,000 – £35,000 per year. Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.
Your role will vary day to day, but here is a bit of what you can expect:
- Providing excellent service to our customers.
- Handling general customer queries via telephone, live chat or e‑mail within agreed service standards.
- Underwriting new business, renewals and mid‑term adjustments.
- Supporting Senior Underwriters and Underwriters on their cases as well as handling own cases, all within own authority level.
- Negotiating within authority, referring where appropriate to maximize customer retention.
- Anticipating likely objections and building effective responses.
- Collaborating strongly with other departments to achieve the company's goals in respect of service delivery.
- Passionate about your own development.
- Evidence of personal and professional development and commitment to further development is essential.
- Good numerical, written and verbal communication skills, including telephony, are essential.
- Confidence handling, analysing and interpreting data.
- Enjoy interacting with others, building strong internal and external relationships and having excellent communication skills.
- Practical knowledge of MS Office and MS Outlook.
- Real Estate or Commercial Underwriting experience.
- Responsible Artificial Intelligence usage.
