Job Summary
HDI Global SE Singapore is seeking an experienced Underwriter to support the management and development of the Engineering Line of Business.
You will be responsible for underwriting a broad range of engineering risks, including project business, Completed Engineering Civil Risks (CECRs), and operational renewable energy risks, while ensuring profitable growth, underwriting discipline, and compliance with internal guidelines and regulatory requirements. The role also involves supporting portfolio management, business development, and mentoring junior team members.
Responsibilities- Underwrite engineering risks across project and operational phases, including CECRs and renewable energy risks, in accordance with underwriting guidelines and authority limits
- Analyse new business and renewal submissions, assess risk exposures, and determine referral requirements
- Develop pricing strategies using actuarial models, rating tools, and market data to ensure profitability
- Manage underwriting acceptance, monitoring, and control for the Engineering portfolio in line with HDI Global mandates
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Home Office, Risk Engineering, and Claims teams to enhance underwriting decisions and strategies
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and (re) insureds to support new business generation and portfolio retention
- Support the development and implementation of marketing strategies for Engineering lines of business
- Identify new business opportunities and contribute to product development to meet customer needs
- Monitor portfolio performance, including risk exposures, profitability, and market trends, and recommend corrective actions where necessary
- Prepare regular and ad hoc underwriting and portfolio reports for management review
- Maintain accurate underwriting documentation, policy administration, and electronic filing systems in accordance with company standards
- Participate in underwriting meetings, industry events, and stakeholder engagements as required
- Provide coaching, training, and technical guidance to junior underwriters
- Ensure compliance with internal guidelines, underwriting frameworks, and regulatory requirements
- Degree or Diploma in any discipline, preferably in Engineering or a related field
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in Engineering or specialty lines underwriting
- Possesses or is working towards a recognised insurance qualification (e.g. ACII, AAII, ANZIIF, SCI)
- Strong knowledge of engineering insurance risks, including project and operational exposures
- Demonstrated underwriting, analytical, and portfolio management capabilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and underwriting tools
