Role Description

The P&C Development Underwriter is a full-time role based in Manchester with a hybrid working pattern, combining office collaboration with some work from home. This role focuses on underwriting property and casualty risks, analyzing submissions, assessing exposure, and determining appropriate coverage, pricing, and terms in line with AXA’s underwriting guidelines. The P&C Development Underwriter will manage and grow a portfolio of accounts, working closely with brokers and internal stakeholders to build strong relationships, support new business development, and retain existing clients.

Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing risk information, preparing quotations, negotiating terms, contributing to product development initiatives, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. The role also involves sourcing new prospects and portfolio management.

Candidate Skills, Experience & Qualifications
  • Strong property and casualty underwriting skills, including risk assessment, pricing, and coverage analysis.
  • Experience managing broker relationships, supporting business development, and contributing to portfolio growth.
  • Solid analytical capabilities with proficiency in interpreting data, market trends, and performance metrics.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in documentation, policy wording, and compliance.
  • Relevant insurance qualifications (e.g., progress toward or completion of CII) and prior experience in commercial P&C underwriting are highly beneficial.
  • Comfort with using modern underwriting tools, CRM systems, and Microsoft Office applications to manage workloads efficiently.
