  • Career development – ongoing learning, development opportunities, and the chance to grow your underwriting expertise
  • Supportive team culture – collaborative, knowledgeable, and customer‑focused
What you'll be doing
  • Assessing and documenting life and disability risk by reviewing customer applications and determining appropriate underwriting terms, in line with your agreed level of autonomy
  • Making underwriting decisions across Life, Critical Illness, and Income Protection, balancing risk, customer outcomes, and commercial considerations
  • Participating in or leading process improvement and change initiatives to enhance underwriting quality, systems, efficiency, and commercial viability
  • Requesting additional medical or financial information where appropriate, ensuring requests are proportionate and do not negatively impact the customer journey
  • Identifying potential complaints and ensuring they are escalated and addressed promptly, with root causes captured to support continuous improvement and regulatory compliance
  • Maintaining accurate, timely records of all underwriting activity to support reporting, communication, and effective business decision‑making
  • Keeping up to date with legislative and regulatory requirements, ensuring all underwriting decisions remain compliant
  • Communicating professionally and effectively with internal stakeholders, external customers, and third parties using a variety of channels
  • Understanding service level commitments made during the sales process and ensuring underwriting activity supports customer expectations and delivery standards
Who we're looking for
  • Proven experience underwriting UK protection products
  • UK medical underwriting experience (essential)
  • Strong understanding of mortality and morbidity risk factors, including financial underwriting
  • Extensive knowledge of Life, Critical Illness, and Income Protection products
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of relevant UK legislation and regulatory requirements
  • Experience contributing to or leading underwriting improvement initiatives
Benefits
  • The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance‑related bonus plan and valuable share schemes
  • Generous pension contribution
  • Life assurance
  • Healthcare Plan (permanent employees only)
  • At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays, 26 days after 2 years’ service. There’s also the option to buy and sell holiday
  • Competitive family leave
  • Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand‑new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice (permanent employees only)
  • Many discounts we offer – both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online
  • We’re creating net‑zero carbon workplaces by 2030 by investing in our sustainable, modern offices across the UK, all designed to bring people together and elevate the in‑person experience
