About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Insurance Risk Underwriter to join their esteemed, fully remote team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for assessing and managing complex insurance risks across various portfolios, ensuring the company's financial stability and profitability. You will leverage your deep expertise to analyze applications, develop underwriting strategies, and mentor junior underwriters. This position offers the ultimate flexibility, allowing you to work from anywhere in South Africa while contributing significantly to the strategic direction of our client's underwriting operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and underwrite complex insurance risks, making sound decisions on acceptance, terms, and pricing.
  • Develop and refine underwriting guidelines and strategies to adapt to market changes and risk exposures.
  • Provide expert guidance and mentorship to junior underwriting staff.
  • Collaborate with claims and actuarial teams to ensure cohesive risk management.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, identifying trends and potential areas of concern.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and company policies in underwriting practices.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in insurance underwriting , with a focus on complex risks.
  • In-depth knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment techniques, and insurance products.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., "ACII, FLMI") are highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage a demanding workload in a fully remote setting.
