Top 3 skills needed for this role     Advanced Underwriting Expertise   Deep knowledge of life, serious illness and income protection underwriting, with the ability to assess complex medical and financial risk accurately.
Audit & Analytical Capability   Strong attention to detail with the ability to review automated decisions, identify trends in non-disclosure, and translate insights into meaningful improvements.

What this role is all about:
At Vitality, this role sits at the heart of ensuring our life underwriting decisions truly reflect the needs of our members while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and integrity. Youll play a key role in strengthening confidence in our automated underwriting engine by leading a robust post-issue audit programme, helping us better understand application disclosures and continuously improve outcomes. Alongside this, youll contribute to new business underwriting quality audits and support retrospective claim assessments, giving you broad exposure across underwriting and making a meaningful impact on how we evolve and enhance our approach.

You will be a life underwriting expert who lives and breaths life insurance.
Key Actions    Ensure a robust post-issue underwriting non-disclosure QA programme is in place, working with Operational colleagues; ensure post-issue communications are sound and evidence collation is appropriate.
Review monthly random and targeted samples of automated underwriting system decisions, completing findings on the post-issue audit log and issuing a monthly summary report.
Ascertain the non-disclosure rate of policies across each distribution channel, supporting training and development by identifying and reporting trends where non-disclosure can be improved.
Liaise with the Automated Underwriting Team to recommend improvements to question sets and/or underwriting philosophy, and suggest enhancements to data collection to maintain an effective audit process.
Report Operational Risks promptly to the Head of Underwriting Quality, discussing mitigation actions, and stay up to date with changes to underwriting philosophy, processes, systems, reinsurance manuals and internal guidelines.
Provide new business underwriting audits as required and support retrospective underwriting of claims.
What do you need to thrive?
Experience at a senior underwriter level with in-depth medical and financial knowledge in respect of Life cover, Serious Illness and Income Protection. Familiar with concepts of a post issue underwriting QA.
Good working knowledge of regulatory procedures/requirements within the industry
Relevant life medical or underwriting qualifications
